Peronsally, I think this baby is rockin’ out to the Stone Roses…

This postcard from Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers says it all.  The new Manics album now officially beats out The Arcade Fire for the album I’m most looking forward to.

I went on a song kick today….my iPod shuffled to Idlewild’s “Tell Me Ten Words” off of the album ‘The Remote Part’ and I’ve played it approximately 30 times in a row.  I can’t even completely articulate what about that song grabbed me today - the album is one of my favorites, but that song is my theme today and specifically, I’m loving the line: “It’s what you thought you could be if you tried much harder.”  Roddy Womble is truly a lyricist who falls into the poet category.  Here are the complete lyrics:
IDLEWILD - “Tell Me Ten Words”
I have to stop saying “to be honest”, it’s not a real defeatTo have to stop saying “to be honest”, it’s not a great defeatNo, no, no, not such a great defeatAll these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that wayAll these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that wayCan you tell me 10 words that you’d use, to describe the worldCan you tell me 10 words that you’ve used, to describe the worldTo people, though people, never seem to knowTo people, though people, never knowThe more I say the more I keep confusing things, to make me feel completeSo I keep lying to be honest, it’s not a real defeatNo, no, no, not such a real defeatAll these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that wayAll these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that wayCan you tell me 10 words that you’d use, to describe the worldCan you tell me 10 words that you’ve used, to describe the worldTo people, though people, never seem to knowTo people, though people, never knowIt’s what you thought you are, it’s what you thought you areIt’s what you thought you are,It’s what you never thought you are, it’s what you never thought you areIt’s what you thought you could be if you tried much harderAll these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that way

IDLEWILD - “Tell Me Ten Words”

I have to stop saying “to be honest”, it’s not a real defeat
To have to stop saying “to be honest”, it’s not a great defeat
No, no, no, not such a great defeat

All these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that way
All these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that way

Can you tell me 10 words that you’d use, to describe the world
Can you tell me 10 words that you’ve used, to describe the world
To people, though people, never seem to know
To people, though people, never know

The more I say the more I keep confusing things, to make me feel complete
So I keep lying to be honest, it’s not a real defeat
No, no, no, not such a real defeat

All these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that way
All these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that way

Can you tell me 10 words that you’d use, to describe the world
Can you tell me 10 words that you’ve used, to describe the world
To people, though people, never seem to know
To people, though people, never know

It’s what you thought you are, it’s what you thought you are
It’s what you thought you are,
It’s what you never thought you are, it’s what you never thought you are
It’s what you thought you could be if you tried much harder

All these things that you don’t know, it seems so much better that way

A couple of months ago, my wife took passport photos of our kids so we could all go to Ensenada, Mexico and work with an orphanage our church supports.  I’ve always hated my passport pictures (more so than other pictures of myself, mind you), but I loved the simplicity of the pics of my kids.  They ended up being such beautiful snapshots of them.  And check out how skinny their necks are!

Since I’m in love with my wife I’m posting another pic of her.  Since we’re moving…I keep finding old pictures of us.  Pictures I had forgotten about or didn’t even realize exsisted.  Pictures that are of the pre-digital age.  I could write an essay about this picture and maybe this summer when I have more time, I will.  But suffice to say, I took this picture before we were married.  Michelle is sitting in front of the Pepperdine chapel looking out a the Pacific Ocean.  I still think I had the better view.

This is my 3-year old son Jack Morrissey (yup, that is his given name on his birth certificate) at the Smiley Library in Redlands checking out an impressive statue.  I’m loving this picture….I’d love to know what he’s thinking here….
